The Infoflip® Process
Content Preparation
Most often, a client will provide us with their edited information and we will do the design and formatting. Sometimes they provide a large amount of information in various formats, while at other times, they provide as little as a topic focus and a couple of websites as a starting point.
We work in close communication with our clients and typically will produce several draft revisions before the content is finalized.
In some cases, a client would like to do some or all of the content preparation internally. In that case, we can provide a template (in the current version of Microsoft Word or Adobe InDesign) which includes specifications for content, fonts and graphics.
At Flip Productions, there are no hard and fast rules; we strive to fit with what our clients want to do.
Production and Delivery Times
Once a client has signed off on the content, it takes about four weeks to produce the finished product.
Infoflips® are manufactured in Germany. For Western Canadian customers, we usually consolidate an airfreight shipment to Vancouver every 2 to 3 weeks. We clear the shipments through Customs ourselves, which takes only hours. For the remainder of Canada and all US customers, we ship directly from Germany as soon as production is complete. However, we have to rely on Customs brokers and independent shippers which often adds one week until delivery.
Costs
With a number of variables such as content preparation, format, paper quality and number of copies to be printed, we need to discuss your specific needs and see some of your material before we can provide you with a detailed quote.
Variables that affect cost:
Writing/Content Preparation
If we do much of the writing, a very rough guide is 40 hours for a double flip, and 60 hours for a triple flip, at $80.00 per hour. However, we have produced flips in as little as 12 hours and as many as 138 hours. Because of this wide range, we encourage you to send us your material even if it is at a preliminary stage, so we can give you an estimate. Once we start your Infoflip, we'll give you periodic updates for every 10 to 15 hours spent on your project. Please be aware that graphics, tables and photo work can use up a lot of time.
Number of copies
There is no minimum print-run size. Orders of fewer than 300 are printed digitally, while those over 400 are printed on a 4-colour offset press. On the offset press, the price per copy goes down when more copies are printed, while digital copies cost more or less the same no matter how many are printed.
Cellophane-coating
The cellophane option, a waterproof protective layer, is requested by almost all of our clients. It adds tremendous strength and durability to the Infoflip cover and pages, a smooth feel and a no-glare, matte finish.
Shipping
These costs vary with size of Infoflip and the overall weight of the shipment. For example, a double flip without cellophane weighs about 40 grams per copy, a cellophane-coated triple flip is almost 100 grams per copy. As airlines, customs brokers and freight forwarders often apply minimum rates, small shipments are often more expensive per copy. As a rule, freight and other charges add about $ 0.25 - $ 0.30 per copy.
